Beyond the Game Academy is a basketball academy that uses basketball as a platform to teach life lessons. Co-Director Missy West (Duke) & Colleen Healy (UCONN) teach on court fundamentals along with in-classroom workshops to help improve the entire athlete mentally and physically. Their emphasis is not only what is done on the court, but more importantly what is done off which sets this academy apart from all the others. It's an experience you don't want your child to miss.

Co-directed by Missy West, Duke WBB alumna and Colleen Healy, UCONN WBB alumna, Beyond the Game Basketball Academy focuses on leadership, character & player development designed in training on court fundamentals & essential life skills in classroom workshops.

On The Court

BTGA prides itself on the basketball fundamentals. Less games, more skill work. We teach the “how” and “why” from ball handling to court awareness to defensive positioning. We want our athletes to leave a drill understanding it’s purpose and proper technique.

In The Classroom

Based off from our ORCA leadership principles of - Opportunity, Resilience, Contribution and Accountability - student-athletes are inspired through stories of Missy and Colleens athletic struggles, challenges and successes. Our workshops cover essential life skills such as character development, goal setting, mindset, visualization, communication, confidence building, sportsmanship, teamwork, social media, and so much more.

There is never a dull moment at BTGA. Whether it be through team building activities, problem solving, relationship building, role playing, or simply having a mega dance party there is always a lot of fun to be had! Our mission is to keep kids participating in sports for as long as possible.

  • Professional Career in Germany - Won league Championship

  • Former 12 year Collegiate Coach at the Division III & II Levels

    • Numerous school records broken with Missy at the helm

  • 2 X Ironman Finisher Including numerous half Ironman
